The Sun Journal two-part series about Poland Spring (Sept. 25 and Oct. 2) highlighted some of the important contributions the company makes in Maine.

Here in Hollis, where I reside, Poland Spring has made a significant economic impact since opening its bottling plant. In addition to being a great environmental steward, Poland Spring is a good neighbor. As a volunteer at Hollis Center Food Pantry, I have seen first-hand how a small organization like ours can benefit from the help of a big company.

From food drives to financial donations, Poland Spring has supported the local food pantry for many years. In July, Poland Spring employees collected more than 2,000 pounds of food for the pantry and the company will donate turkeys to feed the hungry for Thanksgiving. Their assistance has and will continue to go a long way.

My son is a plant manager at Poland Spring’s Kingfield facility and I have seen him thrive, both personally and professionally, from working for an employer who is so deeply vested in this state.

That is the exact kind of company I want in my backyard and I hope Poland Spring continues to find success operating here and in other areas across Maine.
