AUBURN — Court Street Baptist Church dedicated a newly renovated Children’s Center to the late Nancy Taber as part of its Rally Day celebration Sept. 11.

Taber had no children of her own but loved the children in her extended family and at the church. She served on the Board of Christian Education.

She graduated from Edward Little High School, and in 1977 she earned her license as a practical nurse from what is now Central Maine Community College. She graduated from Regents College in Albany, New York, as a registered nurse in 1991. She worked over 35 years at Central Maine Medical Center, including service in the neonatal department.

Taber’s bequest to the church provided the funds to renovate space in the church’s education wing devoted to a nursery and to two classrooms. Colorful and vibrant floor tiles, murals, curtains, and a play rug provide an inviting milieu. A feature of the center is a puppet theatre.

“A welcoming nursery facility says to both the children and their parents that the church considers children to be valued members of our church family,” the Rev. David Clark said during the dedication ceremony.

Among those attending were Nancy’s brother, Jeff Taber, and her niece, Alicia Lavoie.

Many individuals contributed hours of labor to the project, including Linda Johnston, Nancy’s friend; Eric Johnston, trustee; Nate Blanchard, associate pastor of children, youth and families; Pam Cooper, chair of the Board of Christian Education; and Stephanie Hansen, superintendent of the Sunday School.
