With a weather forecast calling for steady showers throughout the day on Sunday, officials from the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) have revised their schedule for this weekend’s New England 500 at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.

The PASS North teams were set to run a 300-lap feature on Sunday, while the Vermont-based ACT series was going to run the Fall Foliage 200 in Scarborough for the first time since 1989.

Original plans called for qualifying races for both the ACT Late Models and PASS North Super Late Models on Saturday, along with Twin 50-lap features for the Valenti Modified Racing Series.

The newly-revised schedule will see both ACT and PASS teams run 150-lap features on Saturday, along with the originally scheduled Twin 50s for the Modified tour. The Saturday card will also feature the PASS Mods and Sport series cars.

Qualifying heats are set to take the green flag at 1 p.m.

Stanley Brothers headed for NEAR HOF

Kingfield natives Francis and Freelan Stanley, inventors of the famed Stanley Steamer automobile, will be posthumously inducted into the New England Auto Racers (NEAR) Hall of Fame on Sunday, November 13.

The brothers join John Burgess and Fred Meeker in the Class of 2016 via the Veterans Committee, recognizing those pioneers who contributed to the sport in its early days here in the northeast.

Francis and Freelan’s “Stanley Rocket” set the racing world ablaze more than a century ago, 1906 to be exact – when it hit 127.66 mph on the sand in Ormond Beach, Florida. It was the highpoint of their brief but accomplished venture, taking on all comers in automotive competition. The cars were built in Newton, Massachusetts.

The Stanley brothers, Burgess and Meeker join Newburg native Ricky Craven, fellow drivers Ken Bouchard, Jerry Marquis, Randy Lajoie, Dwight Jarvis, Nokie Fornoro, George Hewitt and broadcaster Jack Arute in this year’s NEAR class.
