LEWISTON — Dale Brown of Boy Scout Troop 116 in Lewiston was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a ceremony on July 23 in Holy Family Church hall.

Friends, family and Mayor Robert Macdonald attended.

Brown, 17, started scouting as a wolf in second grade. He attended an abundance of camp outs and derbies while learning skills, earning badges, attending meetings and making lifelong friends. He attended a national jamboree in West Virginia in 2013.

His Eagle project was to collect 100 backpacks and items such as books, movies, clothing, toys and hygiene supplies to fill them. The bags were given to the Department of Health and Human Services, which will give them to children entering foster care. Brown received donations by many businesses, friends and family, and placed donation boxes at his school. All monetary donations were used to buy extra items to fill the bags. He filled a total of 104 backpacks.

Brown is a senior at St. Dominic Academy and works there after school. He is active in his spiritual faith, basketball and coaching youth football. His future goal is to attend college, where he hopes to major in sports broadcasting and minor in coaching college football.
