DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone know where I can find real cheese curds, the type used in genuine poutine? The farm stand in Lisbon next to the post office used to carry some, but last time I checked they didn’t carry it anymore. There must be somewhere it can be bought locally. — Andrew, No Town.

ANSWER: Pineland Farms has cheese curds that are distributed for sale at various local stores, including at their own market in New Gloucester. You can also purchase directly through their online market, and at several local farm stores and grocery chains such as Hannaford.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was delighted to read the question from No Name in Waterford about gelato. You named some good choices, but I wanted to make your readers aware that Gelato Fiasco is one of the largest independently owned gelato producers in the United States, and we’re headquartered right down Route 196 in Brunswick.

We sell our pints at about 4,000 grocery stores across the United States, including some Hannaford locations and many independent grocers in Maine (including Axis in Auburn). Customers can visit our shops year-round in downtown Brunswick or in Portland’s Old Port to sample flavors and purchase dishes and pints. The Sun Journal was one of the first newspapers to review us; more recently, we’ve been in the Wall Street Journal, Bon Appetit, and Food & Wine.

We make our gelato from scratch with milk from Maine family farms in many flavors, including Maine blueberry crisp and a terrific espresso chocolate chip. It costs a bit more than regular ice cream, but we think that the value is reflected in the vibrant taste from the high-quality ingredients, rich Maine milk, and special production practices. — Sincerely, Joshua Davis, co-founder, Gelato Fiasco.

ANSWER: Thank you for that information, Joshua. Sun Spots is always happy to recommend a local company.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you so much for printing the information about senior ladies looking to play bridge in the Sabattus area. I inadvertently provided you with the wrong number. It is 375-6607. Would you be so kind to print a correction? — Marilyn, Sabattus.

ANSWER: Happy to do it, and Sun Spots hopes you find some bridge partners.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently, I was transferred from Ledgeview Nursing Home to Stephens Memorial Hospital. During the transfer, my wedding ring was lost. Someone at Stephens Hospital found it and turned it in to their lost and found department to a gentleman named Kevin. I don’t know the name of the finder, but I am so grateful for the honesty and kindness of whoever it was and I thank God that there are still honest people in the world. God bless you, whoever you are. Peace be always with you. — M. Roy, No Town.
