1. Thornton (1-0) (1)
The defending state champions lived up to their pedigree in Week 1. Next up is Cheverus, which didn’t put away Oxford Hills when it had the chance last week.
2. Windham (1-0) (3)
Unlike Portland, the Eagles did not stumble in their opener. So they take over No. 2. All they need to do to maintain their standing is beat Bangor.
3. Bonny Eagle (1-0) (4)
The Scots will either bring Scarborough back down to earth this week, or be the second team on the Red Storm’s upset parade.
4. Brunswick (1-0) (6)
Marshwood’s loss to Biddeford makes the Dragons the highest ranked Class B team. This week’s opponent, Lawrence, gave Skowhegan a battle in Week 1.
5. Falmouth (1-0) (8)
The Yachtsmen did as they were supposed to, beat York by a lot. This week, they have to face a Westbrook team that looked tough against Leavitt last week.
6. Scarborough (1-0) (-)
It’s not often that a team beats Portland, but the Red Storm did just that in the opener. They get a chance to back it up this week against Bonny Eagle.
7. Portland (0-1) (2)
Losing to Scarborough wasn’t becoming of a team coming off a runner-up finish in the state’s largest classification, but it’s too early to completely write off the Bulldogs.
8. Winslow (1-0) (9)
Score points? The Black Raiders did that in Week 1, putting up 60 on Belfast. Play defense? Winslow did that, too, shutting out the Lions.
9. Skowhegan (1-0) (7)
The Indians only beat Lawrence by one point. A win’s a win, but that one’s not a great look for Skowhegan. Then again, if Lawrence beat Brunswick this week …
10. Wells (1-0) (10)
The Warriors had a solid start to the season in beating Spruce Mountain 32-6, and did nothing to diminish their standing as a favorite in Class C South.
