Brunswick from the North and Marshwood from the South have met in the past two Class B state championships, with the Hawks from Marshwood winning both times. Talking to opposing coaches, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a third straight title clash.
Brunswick finished in a three-way tie at 7-1 last year with Skowhegan and Brewer. Skowhegan could push the Dragons for the top spot this season, and Brewer is perennially strong.
Mt. Blue finished fourth in B North last year, and has to replace most starters, but the Cougars feel they have the defense to compete with the top dogs.
Cony, Lawrence and Messalonskee are all strong programs that Mt. Blue must look out for as well.
Marshwood was only the third-best team in B South during the regular season, but the Hawks showed their mettle when it counted. They look to reload for another title run.
Westbrook is seen as a contender this year by opposing coaches, and despite major losses to graduation Leavitt always seems to find a way to contend.
Biddeford has a strong senior class and has seemingly found its footing in Class B, and Falmouth and Kennebunk also will push to put their names in the hat as contenders.
