When I found out that Jessica Fay, candidate for state Representative in Poland, Casco and Raymond, had signed the Maine Council of Churches Civil Discourse Covenant, pledging to be truthful and respectful when interacting with others, even those with whom she disagrees, I was glad, but not surprised.

I have witnessed her listening to voters who were saying disagreeable things and have seen her nod and calmly agree to disagree, shake their hands and remind them with a smile that, even though they aren’t on the same page, she will still represent them.

Imagine if there were more people in government who were willing to listen, to see all sides, to compromise. Imagine if there were leaders who wanted to be inclusive, who were willing to work hard and ask good questions in order to get things done.

I am voting for Jessica Fay. I hope others will, too.
