DEAR SUN SPOTS: Hi, I am trying to find local fairs — in Oxford and surrounding towns — where I can rent a table to sell hand-crocheted hats. The fairs would have to be in September and early October. Can you help? Thank you. — Pat, No Town.
ANSWER: The best place to find upcoming local fairs just happens to be the Sun Journal’s Community Calendar. In the calendar, you’ll find listings for events such as the following, which was, at the time of submission, seeking vendors:
Auburn — Ladies Auxiliary Unit No. 31, American Legion, will host the fifth annual Craft and Vendor Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Alden M. Gayton Legion Post, 426 Washington St. North.
Check the Community Calendar for many more listings such as this.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: A heartfelt thanks is sent out to The First Universalist Church of Turner Center “Cabin Fever Concert” series of 2014. The church donated $1,800 for instruments and supplies to be used for students who needed assistance in the SAD 52 Music Department. With that money, the teachers were able to have three instruments repaired, and to buy seven “gently used” instruments and supplies needed for care and maintenance of other instruments.
The money was a wonderful surprise. The music teachers were appreciative of the support, generosity and efforts of those community members who spearheaded the raising of funds, of the church congregation that voted to gift the money to the school music program in support of young musicians, and to the community at large that attended.
Playing an instrument, singing and critically listening to music benefits people of all ages. The music teachers are looking forward to putting the instruments to work this fall.
The greatest appreciation goes to the musicians themselves who donated their time and talents to support this worthwhile cause. Thank you from all of us, especially from the budding musicians, who will someday, hopefully, play in the Cabin Fever Concert series and at the Gazebo.
If you have an instrument that is not being used, the music department would gladly take it off your hands to help a student. Drop it off at the closest school. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Dow, music teacher at LAHS: (207) 225-1100 ex.3115 or by email to sarah.dow@msad52.org or the music teacher in your town. — Sarah, Turner.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to thank the readers for their generosity to Turner Elementary School and Tripp Middle School for sending their Box Tops for Education. We have started the new school year. If you have any Box Tops that you would like to donate to our school, please mail them to me at 5 Brookfield Est., Turner, Maine 04282. — Laurie, Turner.
