BOSTON — Maine Red Sox Service Scholarships were presented to 20 graduating seniors from Maine public high schools this year.

The students were awarded the scholarships at Fenway Park prior to the game on Aug. 14.

This is the scholarship program’s third year in Maine. It was first launched in New Hampshire in 2010 and now runs in all five New England states outside of Massachusetts. The $1,000 Red Sox Service Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic performance, financial aid eligibility and demonstrated community service.

Local recipients are:

• Anthony DeGone of Turner, a Leavitt Area High School graduate, will attend Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island; 

• Joshua Maillet of Rumford, a Mountain Valley High School graduate, will attend Colby College in Waterville;

• Nicole Pires of Farmington, a Mt. Blue High School graduate, will attend University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont; and

• Amber Smith of Lewiston, a Lewiston High School graduate, will attend Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire.
