FARMINGTON — The Board of Selectmen has approved hiring a new officer for the Farmington Police Department.
Jesse A. Clement, 26, of New Portland started work Thursday. He fills a position held by William Tanner who left July 2 after seven years, Police Chief Jack Peck told the board.
Clement was an officer with the Carrabassett Valley Police Department and graduated from the Police Academy in December 2015. He earned a degree in criminal justice from the University of Maine at Augusta and graduated from Carrabec High School, Peck said. Clement is a member of the National Guard.
In other business, the board approved a liquor license for the new food service at the University of Maine at Farmington. Sodexo America has taken over the service formerly provided by Aramark.
The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at the Town Office to review 2016 tax rate scenarios before setting the rate.
