GREENVILLE (AP) — A 14-year-old boy hiking the Appalachian Trail toward Mount Katahdin is recovering after Maine game wardens and an Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter came to his aid when he suffered a possible broken leg.

The teen, from McLean, Virginia, was with 12 others hiking a rugged section known as the 100-mile Wilderness. They were at a lean-to on Barren Mountain, southeast of Greenville.

Game wardens hiked 4.5 miles and coordinated with the helicopter to fly him to a hospital.
