FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors unanimously voted Tuesday to approve Joel Smith, assistant principal/athletic director at the middle school, to be interim assistant principal at Mt. Blue Campus.
They also approved hiring Chad Brackett of Farmington as the interim full-time athletic director at Mt. Blue High School. Brackett was a social studies teacher at the high school.
“We had many good applicants for the position,” Superintendent Tom Ward wrote in a report to the board. “Chad was the committee’s top choice. Chad’s grandfather was the first athletic director for (Maine School Administrative District 9) when Mt. Blue High School opened its doors in 1968.”
The school board approved the implementation of an interim administration model at the campus on Aug. 2 to be more efficient and to better meet the needs of students.
The salary for Smith, of Farmington, is $75,756 and for Brackett, $60,000.
Both salaries are within the $470,910 budgeted for campus administration in the 2016-17 district budget.
Directors also re-elected Jennifer Zweig-Hebert of Starks as chairwoman and Betsey Hyde of Temple as vice chairwoman.
In other hiring action, the board approved Olivia Brown as fifth-grade teacher at Cascade Brook School in Farmington; Karen Jacques as social worker for the district; and Katherine Spahr as a second-grade teacher at Academy Hill School in Wilton.
