WILTON — The Board of Selectpersons tabled awarding a bid for the downtown revitalization project Tuesday.

A special board meeting has been set for 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Town Office for the board to acquire more information before making the decision.

Bids were received from E.L. Vining & Son and Pratt & Son. Both contained options that the board wanted more information about.

The quorum of three members, Chairwoman Tiffany Maiuri, Jeff Adams and Ruth Cushman, agreed to hold a special meeting before next Tuesday and preferably with an engineer from Wright-Pierce engineers to explain the proposed options.

The bid process requested a start no later than right after Labor Day, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said.  The bid decision is needed by next Tuesday in order to begin the two-month project by then, she said.

Although the town received a $400,000 Downtown Revitalization grant through the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development and has done some work, the costs included in the bids may require going over the amount or deleting some items, she said.

The town could pull out a bench and some trash receptacles from the plans or consider taking funds from the town’s Tax Increment Financing agreement. The project will not get the signs wanted because of the high costs, she said.

Replacing light poles is taking much of the costs, she said.

 “I would like more information,” Selectperson Jeff Adams said about proposed directional drilling for underground conduits. “Information about the need and where it is going. It is going to make a difference in the bids.”
