1918 – 2016

AUBURN — Annette Levasseur Dallaire, a lifelong resident of Lewiston and more recently of Schooner Estates, Auburn, died at her residence on Tuesday, Aug, 9, at the age of 98.

Daughter of Joseph and Albertine Moreau Levasseur, she was born Feb. 4, 1918. Annette and her siblings made great personal sacrifices to keep themselves together as a family unit with the untimely death of both parents. Despite numerous adversities in her life, Annette’s love of life and all of its beauty endeared her to everyone. As a parishioner of Holy Family Church, she was a woman of deep faith who joyously brought the Eucharist to residents in local nursing homes. Her unbounded love of family and friends was evident to all who knew her.

She loved to dance, read, socialize with friends, attend elegant functions, movies and musical theater and  travel. A fierce competitor, Annette was a sharp card player — pinochle and bridge being her favorite games — and an avid fan of tennis. She was an ardent supporter of all American tennis players in the major competitions.

On Dec. 5, 1942, Annette married Maurice Dallaire and for 61 years they were sweethearts until Maurice’s death in 2003. After working in local shoe shops, Annette helped Maurice establish O’Brien Consolidated Industries and A&M Rubber Supply Co. in Lewiston.

Annette and Maurice’s travels took them to Hawaii, which was Annette’s vision of heaven on Earth, and to Alaska, Europe and numerous destinations in the United States.

As the mother of Susan and Loraine, Annette’s unconditional love for them was the basis of a warm, nurturing home filled with family gatherings and holiday celebrations. The births of her grandchildren were such a joy to her that she would exclaim, “My cup runneth over.”
