AUGUSTA — There was thunder in Rogers Post’s bats, but there was also rumbles of thunder and lightning in the sky that put the American Legion team’s hot offense on hold for a half a day.
The thunder and lightning not only caused a delay of Thursday’s second-round game of the American Legion state playoffs at Morton Field, but the game was suspended until Friday, when Rogers Post will try to get it done against Zone III winner Yankee Ford at 10 a.m.
The teams were in the middle of the fourth inning when a second round of thunderstorms came and lingered before the umpires called the game for the night.
Rogers Post was leading 6-1.
Rogers Post opened up on Yankee Ford in the first inning. Austin Cox doubled and scored when Tyler Blanchard got on with an error. Jared Norcross-Plourde walked and Lew Jensen ripped a two-run double. Jensen came home on Grant Hartley’s one-run double.
Rogers had a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the first.
Yankee Ford got one run in the first, but Rogers countered with two more runs in the third inning. Drew Lashua launched a solo home run to right field. Hartley walked and eventually scored on an error at shortstop.
