A Denmark man suffered serious injuries while trying to wrangle a neighbor’s bull when the animal wandered into his yard Sunday night, police say.
Maine State Police Trooper Jason Wing said one man was being treated for serious injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Wing did not release the name of the man, whom he described as a 42-year-old Denmark resident living on Rocky Knoll Road.
According to Wing, the man was injured while trying to return the bull to his neighbor after it broke through a fence, which was not electrified.
As the bull was being rounded up it apparently thumped the man repeatedly with its body. Initial reports that he had been gored proved false, Wing said.
The bull was eventually returned to the owner, who put it down. Wing said it weighed between 600 and 700 pounds.
Wing said he did not believe the animal’s owner was negligent but the trooper was submitting a report to the Oxford County District Attorney’s Office.
“I don’t really deal with these cases every day,” Wing said.
