ANSWER: We’ve probably all seen those ads promising big bucks for stuffing envelopes, but beware — many, if not most, of those are scams. They often want you to send in money (it might even be a small amount, such as $10) or to provide personal information. Sun Spots’ advice? Don’t do it. There are other, more legitimate ways to make money from home. Consider turning a hobby into a moneymaker.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Federal Trade Commission will not do a thing to help No Name in Lewiston from your Monday, July 11, column. I know. I had two problems lately, and one like his. I wrote to them. They said they would put it on file, but I needed to see a lawyer. A lot of good putting it on file will do. One of the problems I had put me out $40.

On another note, can you tell me who, if anyone, installs CB radios in vehicles? I haven’t been able to find anyone. Thank you for all you do for me and everyone. You are so caring. — No Name, Gray.

ANSWER: Most car audio technicians are able to install CB radios in vehicles. In the Lewiston-Auburn area, you might check with Auto City of Maine at 1009 Center Street in Auburn. You can reach them Monday through Saturday by calling (207) 333-3390. There’s also Sound Effects at 216 Center Street in Auburn. You can call them at 777-3339.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your column regularly and should have mailed you several weeks ago. The Androscoggin River Watershed Council conducts the Source 2 Sea paddle from Lake Umbagog to Merrymeeting Bay each summer. On Saturday, July 30, we are offering families that do not have kayaks a chance to paddle on the Androscoggin. The event will be held at the Cherry Pond river access in Greene from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We will have kayaks, a few paddleboards, and we will offer basic tips on their use. We will also be offering lunch to participants. People can sign up by calling (207) 754-8158 or visiting www.androscogginwatershed.org.

Cherry Pond is at the end of River Road, off Meadow Hill Road. Maps are available on the website. Hope some people can come out and enjoy the Androscoggin River, and thanks for a very helpful column. — Ferg, No Town.

ANSWER: This sounds like a fun activity, and what a wonderful way to introduce families to the healthy sport of paddling.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Greene Village Day will take place Sept. 10 in the town of Greene. We are looking for local residents to enter our Chili/Chowder Cook-off. There will be a judge’s award and a people’s choice award for each category. If you would like to enter your chili or chowder in this event, please call (207) 946-4307. — Hazel, Greene.

ANSWER: Sun Spots loves chili and chowder, so her question to you is: Are you sure you have enough judges?
