NEWRY — The New England Forest Rally at Sunday River wrapped up Saturday after two days of exciting races.
The backwoods car race a crowd of hundreds, passionately cheering on 48 cars.
Spectator access was limited this year because of last year’s attendees getting out of control.
A smaller viewing space didn’t dampen the spectators’ spirits, though, and the drivers seemed energized as ever to take on the challenge.
Driver Seamus Burke and co-driver Martin Brady, driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Evo 9, took home the NEFR overall title for 2016 with a time of 1 hour, 29 minutes and 33.6 seconds, beating out driver Troy Miller and co-driver Jeremy Miller who finished the race with a time of 1 hour, 31 minutes and 39.7 seconds.
Burke previously took home the title in 2001 with co-driver Frank Cunningham.
