Mystery photo for July 10, 2016

There were few correct entries for last week’s Mystery Photo of the graffiti on what is left of the wall of the former Cowan Mill next to Great Falls and the Veterans Memorial Park in Lewiston. The winner, Ed Stanhope of Auburn, thought he recognized where it was when he opened his paper Sunday morning. “We just love the Mystery Photo contest and often drive around to check out if our hunches are correct. It was just where we thought it was,” said Stanhope when notified that he was the winner. The Cowan Mill was scheduled to be renovated into a hotel and retail space as part of the Island Point project before it burned to the ground in 2009. All that remains of the iconic mill is a piece of the wall and a few piles of bricks. Stanhope is the winner of a $20 Hannaford Supermarkets gift card.
