BETHEL — The annual Source to the Sea will begin Friday, July 8, at the Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge on the Magalloway River north of Errol, N.H.

The 170-mile paddling adventure down the Androscoggin River — Lake Umbagog in New Hampshire to Merry Meeting Bay in Brunswick — is hosted by the Androscoggin River Watershed Council of Bethel.

Each year, hundreds of paddlers join for one or multiple days to celebrate the river’s rebirth. Participants learn about local conservation, history, ecology and recreation through daily on-river programs. This is an opportunity to view eagles, osprey, loons and other wildlife.

The daily schedule and preregistration are available at androscogginwatershed.org. Preregistration is strongly encouraged for logistical and safety reasons. Although there is no fee to participate, a $10 to $20 donation is suggested at registration. Donations of any amount will also be accepted at the launch site on each event day. All donations support the administrative costs to coordinate the Source to Sea and other ARWC projects.
