FARMINGTON — The Regional School Unit 9 board of directors Tuesday evening hired two teachers, thanked two outgoing directors and recognized two new ones.

Recent University of Maine at Farmington graduate Sylvia Brooks was hired as a fourth-grade teacher and UMF graduate Cameron McAllister was hired as a third-grade teacher, both for Cascade Brook School. It’s the first teaching job for the Farmington residents.

Directors Kenneth Charles and Nancy Porter of Farmington were thanked for their service, which ended Thursday.

Their successors, Douglas Dunlap and Scott Erb, were recognized.

Also recognized was Mt. Blue High School junior Griffin Mayhew, one of four students on the board of directors. The others are junior Joe Crandall, and seniors Lexi Daggett and Brooklyn Winters.

In other business, the board approved transferring $135,000 from regular instruction and $120,339 from plant operations as follows:

• $120,000 to special services for an unexpected increase in students needing services outside the district and a need for more educational technicians;

• $45,000 to school administration for new contract expenses and sick-time payout to a retiring principal;

• $80,000 to student transportation to replace an underground diesel fuel tank, wages for custodians to drive buses and for drivers and aides for students needing special services outside the district; and 

• $10,339 to debt service because of a reduction in federal money.
