BRUNSWICK — Police are investigating a traffic incident in Brunswick in which a police officer hit a pedestrian with his cruiser in the early morning hours.

The Portland Press Herald reports Brunswick Officer Matthew Nicholson was making a turn in his cruiser when he hit John Ross, who was walking across a ramp in a marked crosswalk. The incident happened on Wednesday morning.

Ross was sent to Maine Medical Center in Portland for non-life threatening injuries. Nicholson was not hurt.

Police say Ross did not use the crosswalk button and was walking against the signal. They also believe a rainstorm in the area at the time impeded visibility for both Ross and Nicholson.
