PARIS — Police say two people from southern Maine allegedly caught with heroin and cocaine in their car hit a crack pipe before returning to gamble at Oxford Casino.
Daniel Lydon and Angela Ruotolo were allegedly caught on a security camera using cocaine in the casino’s parking lot before joining a game of blackjack on June 13.
Lydon and Ruotolo initially were summonsed from the gambling floor after casino security allegedly spotted them using drugs and called the police, according to an affidavit by Officer Daniel Hastings of the Oxford Police Department.
After reviewing camera footage, Hastings said he walked around the car and spotted a crack pipe, pipe cleaner, a burnt spoon and cut straws laying “in plain sight.”
“I approached the two of them and asked them cash out their chips and step outside to speak with me,” he said.
Lydon, 41, and Ruotolo, 29, initially told Hastings they were smoking marijuana. A search of the vehicle yielded six grams of heroin, a little over a gram of cocaine divided into three plastic baggies, spoons, a scale and other paraphernalia.
Lydon, who lives in South Portland, told police the items belonged to him. He is scheduled to appear in Oxford County Unified Court on two felony counts of drug trafficking and a single misdemeanor count of drug possession on Sept. 30 at 8:30 a.m. Bail in the case was set at $500 secured with the addition of a Maine Pretrial Services contact.
Ruotolo, from Westbrook, was bailed on June 13. She is scheduled to be arraigned on a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs on July 7 at 8:30 a.m.
