FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors reviewed a tentative timeline Thursday for developing a new 2016-17 school budget and scheduling votes on it.
The $32.97 million budget presented to voters Tuesday was rejected.
With only 10 of the 16 directors in attendance Thursday, the board reviewed the following tentative schedule:
• Budget discussion at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, and Thursday, June 23, at Mt. Blue Campus;
• Board set Tuesday, June 28, for a vote on the budget if directors at the June 21 meeting finalize the timeline as presented;
• Warrants to be signed by Tuesday, July 5;
• Districtwide budget vote at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Mt. Blue Campus; and
• Validation referendum Thursday, July 28, in the 10 towns.
School directors also confirmed the votes from each town.
The budget failed 1,518 to 1,655, a 60-vote difference than what was initially reported.
In an uncertified vote, Farmington’s numbers were 666-571 to approve the budget. But after recalculation and certification by the town clerk, it changed to 666-511. That meant the overall budget failed by 137 votes — not 197 votes.
