OXFORD — Police said a local man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home on Hebron Road early Wednesday morning, hours after his wife reported he had barricaded himself in a bedroom.

Oxford Police Chief Jonathan Tibbetts identified the man as 41-year-old Daniel Pulkkinen. A shotgun was recovered from the scene at 152 Hebron Road.

Police said Pulkkinen and his wife had a verbal argument in Lewiston around 4:30 p.m. and parted ways. After returning home, she found the bedroom door locked and when she couldnt’ make contact with him she called the Oxford Police Department around 5:30 p.m.

After police escorted the wife from the home, officers established a perimeter and attempted to make contact with Pulkkinen. After nearly seven hours, a Maine State Police Tactical Team broke through a bedroom window and discovered Pulkkinen’s body.

Police closed Hebron and Whittemore roads for much of Tuesday evening.
