OXFORD — Police say a man and woman from Southern Maine were caught with cocaine and heroin after Oxford Casino security officers witnessed them using drugs inside a car early Monday morning.

The Oxford Police Department charged Daniel Lydon, 37, of South Portland, with two counts of felony unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs. Also charged was Westbrook resident Angela Ruotolo, 29, with a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

Oxford Police Chief Jonathan Tibbetts said the duo had been gambling at the casino when they left and got into a Chevrolet sedan parked in the casino’s lot. Security personnel saw them use an unknown drug around 6:30 a.m. and reported the incident to police.

A search revealed “numerous” bags of individually packaged drugs intended for resale, Tibbetts said. A full search of the vehicle is pending, though police do not believe the drugs were meant to be sold at the casino.

In addition to Oxford police, the Paris Police Department and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency were called, Tibbetts said.

Lydon and Ruotolo were taken to the Oxford County Jail in Paris where they were booked. As of Monday evening, Lydon was being held on $100,000 worth of real estate or $50,000 cash. He is scheduled to appear in court June 14. Ruotolo, who was bailed on $1,000, is scheduled to be arraigned in court on July 7.
