AUGUSTA — An Auburn woman who worked for United Parcel Service pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing prescription narcotics intended for outpatients of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Togus, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II.

Jennifer Leighton, 37, was employed by United Parcel Service as a customer care representative in the Auburn sorting facility between July and September 2015, the release said. According to court records, Leighton stole at least six packages of prescription narcotic medications shipped from Togus to outpatients.

She entered her plea in U.S. District Court in Portland.

Delahanty said Leighton faces up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. She will be sentenced after a pre-sentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.

The Criminal Investigations Division of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General, investigated this case.
