FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Budget Advisory Committee will hold a public hearing on a proposed $6.27 million spending plan at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the county courthouse.

It includes the jail budget of $1.89 million. 

The committee made $213,993 in tentative cuts on May 12 to the commissioners’ proposed budget.

County Clerk Julie Magoon told county commissioners on June 6 that she believes the budget committee realistically will have to put money back in the budget.

“I have new information on the budget,” she said. “I have some concerns.” 

Among the committee’s tentative cuts were a cruiser purchase, an emergency communications console and a 2 percent wage increase for nonunion employees.

The committee unanimously voted to give each of the three commissioners a flat pay of $12,000 a year and to eliminate their benefit packages.

The proposed salary for commissioners was initially $9,021, including a proposed 2 percent cost-of-living increase. The county pays 35 percent toward the commissioners’ benefit packages. It was formerly 70 percent, but several years ago, the committee reduced it to 35 percent.

The committee plans to meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23, in the Superior Courtroom for a final vote on the budget.
