DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a gift card from Paradise Salon and Spa in Auburn. Would you know if they moved to another location? Thank you for your help.— D.B., Lisbon.

ANSWER: Paradise Salon and Spa has closed for good. The stylists who used to work there have moved over to Urban Edge Hair Studio located at 1117 Center St. in Auburn. Though they’re under no obligation to do so, the former Paradise stylists now at Urban Edge have decided to honor gift cards that are less than a year old from their former salon at 50 percent of the gift certificate’s face value. These stylists will receive no financial benefit from this offer, but they wanted their clientele to know that they are thinking of them and will do their best to help them transition to their new salon. You can reach Urban Edge Hair Studio by calling (207) 784-3522. Ask to speak with Bethany or Chelsea, who were the senior stylists at Paradise, and they can give you more details about your gift card.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have suffered with fibromyalgia for many years and would like to know if there is a support group in the area. I’m always looking to see what others are doing to help with their pain for this medical problem. Thank you for all the information that you provide to all of us. I can be contacted at bnjtherrien@gmail.com. — No Name, No Town.

ANSWER: According to the Mayo Clinic’s website, fibromyalgia is a complicated and somewhat mysterious disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues and a host of other unpleasant physical and mental symptoms. There is no known cure, and so pain management and focusing on general health and well-being are the best treatments available at present.

The only fibromyalgia-specific support group Sun Spots was able to find somewhat nearby is “Central Maine’s Fibromyalgia Support Group.” This group began meeting on the second of  each month last September, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Augusta Alfond Center for Health. This is a structured  meeting with monthly topics  chosen by members, followed by an open discussion. It is free to the public. For more information, contact Beth Connors at (207) 975-4654 or email danceswithmoose214 @fairpoint.net.

If there are any other such services that are closer to the Lewiston/Auburn area, then Sun Spots hopes a reader will respond with the information. Otherwise, perhaps you’ve identified a need in the community and someone will take the initiative to start a local group. Best of luck to you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The United New Auburn Association will host the third annual Community Yard Sale Saturday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lots of Rolly’s Diner and the New Auburn Social Club.
