It is difficult to understand and so hard to believe that Paris residents are being put in the position, once again, of having to vote to keep the police department. This is the third time that residents have been asked to vote. Again, residents are being asked to lose a part of Paris history — the Paris Police Department has been here for 41 years.
If residents vote to go with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department, (closing the Paris Police Department), residents would no longer have 24-hour coverage. No officer would be available during the hours most people sleep.
Paris is the second largest town in the county. Does it make sense to leave residents uncovered during the night-time hours, when most of the crimes take place?
I hope others will join me June 14 in voting to keep the Paris Police Department.
