In the not-so-distant future, Rumford is looking at a new hotel, expanded parks and trails and a school district where residents will have more control to make decisions best for local taxpayers.
There is a contingent of people who believe taxes are too high, and the only way to fix that is to cut. The way to lower taxes is to increase the tax base, not strip away current services. The next town manager must break up the job equally three ways: writing grants, managing the town and pursuing economic development.
Residents must look at knowledge base when they vote June 14, not failed agendas to cut, cut, cut just to try and save a buck. Voters should stop saying no to Rumford’s budget and start focusing on economic growth for Rumford’s future.
I support Chris Brennick and Gabrielle Johnson for selectmen, because you cannot cut your way to economic success.
Brad Gallant, Rumford
