DEAR SUN SPOTS: Whatever happened to Larry Wilcox of CHiPS? I’ve been watching these programs on ME and noticed someone replaced him. Thanks for a really great and informative column. — Heather Rose, Norway.

ANSWER: According to the Internet Movie Database, Larry Wilcox co-starred with Erik Estrada for five years on CHiPS, playing the role of Officer Jon Baker from 1977 to 1982. Wilcox left after the show’s fifth season to begin his own (successful) production company. By the time he left the show, CHiPS’s ratings were already in decline, and the series would only make it one more season before being canceled. Wilcox resumed the role once again— only this time as “Captain” Jon Baker — for a 1998 made-for-TV reunion movie.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have in my possession an original photo of Bert and Celia Noyes. I’m wondering if there is anyone out there doing family history who might want this original picture? Their granddaughter was Norma Sidelinger, who has passed away. Please email Ginstar38@aol.com, or call (207) 524-3455 if you are interested. I would be happy to pass this picture along to relatives. —Virginia, No Town.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Our Lewiston group is looking for a retired individual experienced working with computer software programs who would be willing to volunteer some time to set up and help train a few members in our group. Several in our group use computers every day but need help to select the right program for the specific job that needs to be done. Perhaps someone who may be able to write a simple program for us that we could use to do multiple tasks. If you are that person and you are willing to donate some of your precious time to help out, then please call (207) 782-5118 and ask for Anita. Please feel free to leave your name and phone number on our answering machine and we will get back to you. — Anita, No Town.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the June 3 note on Sierra Mist, maybe a name change is coming. “Mist” is the German word for “manure.” — Jim, Lewiston.

ANSWER: Well, Sun Spots is just not sure how to respond. She checked with Google translator and it appears to be true.
