I do not support the proposed (Chapter 33E) Wind Energy Facility Ordinance. It is similar to the ordinance crafted by state attorneys with the help of the wind power industry. The primary purpose of the state ordinance was to facilitate expedited wind energy development in the unincorporated areas of the state.
In 2011, citizens from Rumford developed a wind ordinance after a year and a half of study, learning, discussion, negotiation and debate with representatives from the wind power industry. It was a well-thought-out document, protective of town citizens and the town itself. It was not a prohibitive document.
I ask others to join me. Do not throw out Rumford’s ordinance that has stood for five years. I will be voting against the proposed ordinance on June 14.
