WATERVILLE — Hunter Hughes smashed a two-run double in the third inning, steering St. Dom’s (15-2) to Mountain Valley Conference baseball title and a 5-1 victory over Monmouth Academy (16-1) on Thursday.

Gavin Bates and Riley Volpe combined to pitch a one-hitter, with Bates getting the win. Bates also tripled in the game. Hughes had three hits.

The Saints used eight hits to subdue the Mustangs.

After three innings, the Saints were ahead 5-0 before the Mustangs got a run in the fourth inning.

Chandler Harris was tagged with the loss on the mound. Monmouth’s Gage Cote smacked a lead-off triple.
