LIVERMORE FALLS — The Regional School Unit 73 board Thursday night approved several staff changes.

Mark Ostroff was hired as a math teacher at Spruce Mountain High School and Amy Ryder of Jay was unanimously hired as the district librarian.

“I’m really excited to be working with my own kids, in my own community,” she said.

She has been librarian at the Mountain Valley Middle School for the past 12 years, she said.

In other business, the board voted to accept the resignations, effective at the end of the school year, of bus driver Raymond Loon and special education technician Joan Gosselin.

It also approved, with regret, the resignation of Jay Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Donna Labbe.

Jay representative Shari Ouellette opposed the motion “in principle.” She thanked Labbe for her many years of service and said she and her sister had had Labbe as a teacher.

“You will be sorely missed,” Ouellette said.

Superintendent Kenneth Healey said he has been in the district two years and has heard nothing but praise for Labbe’s teaching skills.

“The district will not be the same after you depart,” he said before the vote.

Labbe later thanked the board, saying she had 43 outstanding years working with outstanding colleagues.

“I am forever grateful for this opportunity,” she said. “I never got tired. I will miss you, but my family needs me now.”

A program recognizing all district retirees will be held at 7:30 a.m. June 16, Healey said.
