PARIS — The Board of Selectmen voted Monday evening to move excess money from the Undesignated Fund to accounts for debt service, contingencies and capital improvements, interim Town Manager Sawin Millett said Wednesday.

Millett said that board has a policy of having a minimum of 12 percent and a maximum of 15 percent of net operating expenditures in the Undesignated Fund.

“The Undesignated Fund balance is currently above the 15 percent maximum allowed by the rules,” Millett said. “It falls within the purview of the town to assign that money to other areas and make adjustments as they see fit.”

Millett said the $93,840 in excess funds will be distributed as follows:

• Debt service, $17,919; 

• Contingency fund, $35,000; and

• Capital improvements, $40,921.

In other business, Millett said the board unanimously voted to appoint Barry Lambert to the Paris Utility District board of trustees.

Selectmen also voted to accept an offer from the Wiscasset Board of Selectmen to purchase the Paris Police Department’s spare 2008 Ford Crown Victoria for $1,000. Millett said it will be used by the Wiscasset Police Department.

Former interim Paris Police Chief Jeffrey Lange left his position May 20 to become chief of the Wiscasset Police Department.
