NORWAY — The Police Department is receiving a grant to enforce speeding, seat belt and distracted-driving laws, Police Chief Rob Federico said Wednesday.

The grant by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety will pay for extra patrols two days a week for two weeks, from May 23 to June 5, he said.

Federico said he was not certain of the amount of the grant.

“It all depends how many towns receive the grant,” Federico said. “That determines the money each town gets for a grant.”

A trailer will also be placed at locations throughout town to spread the “Click It or Ticket” message, Federico said. The campaign by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is to increase seat-belt use.

“The trailer also has the capability to record speeds so that we can utilize the data to target those problem areas,” Federico said.

Anyone wants a speed trailer set in their neighborhood or on their street should call the Police Department at 743-5303, or post a message on its Facebook page.
