LIVERMORE — The cause of a fire that destroyed a large, two-story home on South Road on Friday is undetermined, Fire Chief Donald Castonguay said Tuesday.
The ruling was made by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, he said.
“It was too far gone,” he said of the home owned by Dale Boothby, who lived there with Donnie Foster. The two spotted the fire while planting potatoes.
On Tuesday, Foster said he and Boothby plan to rebuild but do not have detailed plans yet. The house was insured.
“We’re searching through the debris, seeing what we can find for memories,” Foster said.
The entire community has been overwhelmingly supportive, he said. Friends, family and complete strangers have stepped up to help.
“It’s hard to feel pain when given that much love,” Foster said.
Anyone wishing to help may leave items at the Livermore Town Office during business hours.
Foster said there is also someone at the South Road location most of the time to accept donations.
