DEAR SUN SPOTS: What is the difference between brown eggs and white eggs? My father didn’t like the white ones. Thanks. — No Name, Peru.
ANSWER: The difference between white and brown eggs is about the same as the difference between blue and brown eyes. It’s all about genetics. The taste shouldn’t really be affected, and the nutrition facts are the same. They simply come from different breeds of chickens, and the egg shell colors typically match the feather colors of the parent birds. For years, though, rumors have flown about which is the healthier option, which may have set some pre-conceived notions in people’s heads about which egg is better. Rest assured, they’re both equally good.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Generations after generations of students have gone to Catholic elementary and high schools in our local community. This year, St. Dominic Academy marks its 75th anniversary by thanking the many men and women, religious and lay staff, who dedicated their lives to teaching, and for being coaches, moderators and facilitators to so many students. St. Dom’s would like to extend an open invitation to the alumni from all Lewiston, Auburn and surrounding area Catholic schools to a two day celebration.
Save the date for “A Ministry in Education,” held on August 13 and 14 at St. Dom’s in Auburn and at the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul in Lewiston.
If anyone would like to share their photos or memorabilia, please contact the St. Dominic Academy office at (207) 782-6911. We would love to increase our archives. We can also scan images etc., so folks can keep their originals if they want. Watch for more information in your local parish bulletins, on the Saint Dominic Academy website (www.stdomsmaine.org), and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/StDoms/.
Thanks for your help. — Annette L. Bourque, Lewiston.
