A Portland police officer was one of more than 200 witnesses to a fireball that streaked across the Maine sky Tuesday morning.

The officer was waiting to catch speeders sometime before 5 a.m. when he saw the sky light up. His cruiser’s dashboard cam caught the fireball too.

The American Meteor Society says it received more than 240 reports of the event from Maine and other northeastern states. The AMS has mapped the sightings and posted submitted videos. Three witnesses filed reports from Lewiston.

If you saw the event, the AMS  is asking for witnesses to file a report on their website.
