BUCKFIELD — The Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine will host a forester’s tour of the partially harvested 173-acre Everett Towle Forest at 9 a.m. May 14.

Jeff Williams, a consulting forester to SWOAM, will lead the tour that is sponsored by three chapters ? Western Maine, Southern Maine and Two Rivers.

The Buckfield land is a heavily wooded parcel of mixed growth that was given to the SWOAM Land Trust by The Nature Conservancy several years ago. Working with SWOAM staff members, Williams has been developing harvest plans for several years to improve the forest’s quality and production of forest products. The harvest is partly complete.

From Buckfield village, head east on Route 117 for about half a mile. Just after crossing the Nezinscot River, take a left on East Buckfield Road. Follow that for about three miles and the lot is on the left. SWOAM signs will be posted.

The event is free and open to the public.
