LEWISTON — A public information meeting on the proposed $68.8 million school budget will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in the Farwell School gym on Farwell Street.
The 2016-17 spending plan is 6.3 percent more than this fiscal year, because of higher-than-expected enrollment.
If approved by voters, it would mean a tax increase of $34.50 on a property valued at $150,000. But, considering the city budget and a larger Homestead Exemption that will reduce property taxes on qualifying homes, City Administrator Ed Barrett said the $150,000 property’s tax bill would go down $101, from $3,856 to $3,755.
The tax bill for a $100,000 valued property would go from $2,487 to $2,378, $109.85 less, Barrett said.
Voters will cast ballots on the budget all day Tuesday, May 10, at Longley Elementary School.
