LEWISTON — Two people were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday night after a two-car collision on Bates Street.

According to Lewiston Police Lt. David St. Pierre, a white Chrysler Town and Country van, driven by Kadra Bogoreh, 67, of Auburn, was stopped on Walnut Street, waiting to make a left-hand turn. As Bogoreh turned onto Bates Street, her van was struck by a brown Kia Sedona, operated by Zahra Osman, 39, of Lewiston, according to police. 

The crash occurred across from Kennedy Park around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Osman and an unnamed passenger in the white van were transported to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, according to St. Pierre.

Youths playing on the basketball courts in Kennedy Park who witnessed the crash said they thought they heard a gunshot around the time of the collision.

Both vehicles were towed and the scene was cleared by 8:30 p.m. Lewiston Fire and Police responded to the scene, along with United Ambulance.
