LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women has announced a six-week set of workshops exploring integrative medicine through the senses titled Women’s Night Out – A Wellness Series.

The first session is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21. It will focus on sense of smell and aromatherapy by addressing the physiology of smell and how it relates to memory and emotion. How essential oils are made and can be used as medicine will be explored. Participants will have the opportunity to sample various essential oils.

The series is arranged and will be led by Margo Goodman, DO, a family medicine physician who has done additional study in integrative medicine. She is currently completing training in osteopathic manipulative medicine.

Goodman grew up in a military family and lived all over the U.S. and in Europe, but has been in Maine for the past 20 years. She received her undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Southern Maine and her medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. She lives in southern Maine with her husband. She loves dance, martial arts and the study of indigenous healing systems. She is very passionate about the empowerment of women and considers it an honor and pleasure to serve on the board of directors for the Center for Wisdom’s Women.

Joining Goodman for the aromatherapy evening is Josie Conte, DO, an osteopathic family physician and faculty with Central Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program, where she specializes in integrative medicine. She has been a dancer and has taught women’s dance classes in Portland since the early 1990s. She was a massage therapist before becoming a physician.

She completed an herbology course through Emerson College in 1983 and studied botanical medicine with Corrine Martin from the School of Nursing at the University of Southern Maine. She has been trained in the therapeutic use of essential oils through the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy certification program with Dr. Schnaubelt and privately with aromatherapists Patricia Betty and Marcel Lavabre. Conte integrates aromatherapy in her treatments in both inpatient and outpatient settings along with breath and mind-body techniques.

Louise Devlin, NCLMT of Re-awakenings Therapeutic Body Work, received her Maine Licensure after completing the Therapeutic Massage Program at Spa Tech Institute in Portland, Maine. Her training consists of Swedish, Deep Tissue, Pregnancy, Neuromuscular and Myofacial Massage modalities. She has also received extensive training in Cranial Sacral Therapy as well as Foot and Hand Reflexology. Louise studied under Aaron Mattes and provides Assisted Isolated Stretching to her clients when needed. She is a Certified Personal Trainer and a Certified Myoskeletal Alignment Practitioner through the Erik Dalton Freedom From Pain Institute and has trained in healing energy therapies. She is Reiki II certified and provides Polarity and Crystal Healing Therapy in her sessions and offerS Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy and LifeBreath Sessions to her clients as other drug free ways to attain better health. Louise takes pride in offering her clients the healing power of conscious touch.

All women are invited. The event is free, but donations will be accepted. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
