I am writing to once again express my deep gratitude for the cultural opportunities that exist in Lewiston-Auburn. Without such outstanding opportunities, my life in the city would not be as rich or as busy as it was April 1-3.
The Bates Dance Senior Thesis and student choreography was my first stop on Friday evening. Saturday evening I was at the Temple Shalom Synagogue for the Shalom Cafe with many Maine musicians, including the Bates College a cappella group The Manic Optimists, Greg Boardman and Jesse on guitar and fiddle, Chicks with Sticks, Amy Jensen, Elizabeth Helitzer, and Temple Shalom Rabbi Sruli Dresdner and Rebbetzin Lisa (the rabbi’s wife) performing Klezme and Hasidic music, along with a finale with their young twins playing small fiddles. Then, on Sunday, the Maine Music Society orchestra, Bates College orchestra, Maine Music Society chorus, Edward Little High School chorus, Lewiston High School chorus and Bates College chorus performed two Beethoven choral works in the most beautiful and holy setting of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
For those who missed any of those outstanding opportunities, it is my hope that people will check out the calendar of events in the newspaper, online or the many publications that L/A Arts has available.
Many kudos and much appreciation to those whose collaboration made such events possible.
Bette Swett-Thibeault, Lewiston
