JAY — Residents of Jay, Livermore Falls and Livermore will vote Thursday on the proposed budget for Regional School Unit 73. The 6 p.m. meeting will be held at the Spruce Mountain Middle School cafeteria.

The proposed budget for fiscal year 2017 is $18.74 million, which is down $293,986 from this year’s budget, a 1.54 percent decrease. The 2016 fiscal year budget of $19.03M included separate warrant articles for the funding of an elevator and bleachers at the high school.

One budget article asks each town to raise $40,000 ($120,000 total) for adult education. It also asks to appropriate $253,894 for adult education.

If the budget is approved as presented:

• Jay residents will pay $8.56 million, 70.9 percent of the towns’ portion. Last year, Jay paid $8.97 million.

• Livermore residents would pay $1.88 million, 15.6 percent of the towns’ portion. Last year, residents of Livermore paid $1.95 million.

• Livermore Falls residents would pay $1.62 million, 13.5 percent. Last year’s amount was $1.63 million.

The 2017 budget will use $1.21 million from carryover and undesignated funds to lower the amount needed to be raised and appropriated by the three towns.
