March has ended and so does National Nutrition Month — a time when groups such as the Administration for Community Living, an office in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, works in collaboration with local agencies on aging, including SeniorsPlus, to bring attention to its work to ensure that the aging population does not go hungry.

Meals on Wheels is the iconic program of the ACL, but the agency continues to assess and innovate. The overriding theme is that healthy eating can enhance brain power.

The ACL has proposed funding in the president’s fiscal year 2017 budget for innovative nutrition programs designed to appeal to the aging but tech-savvy baby-boomer population. Proposed innovations, such as web-based ordering, daily smart-phone enabled vitals check-in and video-chat nutrition counseling sessions are just around the corner. And remember to eat your vegetables.
