PORTLAND — A Portland man who admitted to robbing two banks while armed with a firearm last year is headed to prison.

Fifty-nine-year-old Francis Ready was sentenced Wednesday in Portland to more than 12 years in federal prison. He pleaded guilty in November to charges of armed bank robbery and using a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence.

Authorities say Ready robbed the TD Bank on Oct. 3 and the Bangor Savings Bank branch on Oct. 12, stealing more than $15,000. Ready used a revolver in both instances. No one was hurt.

Police say an officer arrested Ready after he fled Bangor Savings Bank carrying a white bag filled with cash.
