WILTON — Donald E. and Louise Oakes of Wilton were honored by their children on their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 19 at Turner Higlands Golf Course in Turner.
Mr. Oakes and the former Louise (Dolly) Cornelio were married Sept. 17, 1955, in Riley at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church by the Rev. William Kelly.
A toast was given by the original best man, James Cornelio of Brunswick and Florida. Also attending was the original matron of honor, Angie Lowe of Farmington.
Music was provided by entertainer Jose Duddy of Biddeford. Family and friends enjoyed the music and dancing and a delicious hot buffet was served.
The Oakes received many cards, but also a special framed 60th anniversary blessing from the pope, Holy Father Francis from Rome, Italy.
Mr. and Mrs. Oakes are the proud parents of seven children, Debbie Marquis, Diane Janelle, Dolores Tuttle and James Landry, David and Sue Oakes, Donald and Teresa Oakes, Doreen and Shepard Swain and Daniel and Jonnie Oakes. They also have 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
